Setting the Table | No. 9 - Anniversary Dinner
The anniversary dinner is a progressive meal. One spent cooking and eating in stages, moving through courses at whatever pace the evening calls for, with no rush and nowhere to be. The table stays simple because the meal itself does all the work. The Beatrice tablecloth and the Beatrice napkins, the good wine already open, and a dinner that says everything without trying too hard.
This is week nine of Setting the Table. Here is everything on the anniversary dinner table.
The Table
The Beatrice Tablecloth sets the tone for the whole evening before a single plate is placed. The Beatrice napkins alongside it, the same print, the same warmth, the table already feeling like a celebration before the smoked salmon dip comes out.
White entree bowls for the risotto, simple and clean, letting the food be the focus. Chocolate brown bistro flatware alongside, warm and a little unexpected with the blush pink tablecloth in the best possible way. https://go.shopmy.us/p-64777415 already on the table when you sit down, because an anniversary dinner starts with the glass.
The Menu
This is a progressive dinner, which means you move through it slowly and at your own pace. Make everything you can ahead of time so the only thing requiring your attention during dinner is the risotto, which deserves it.
Smoked salmon dip with good crackers. Rich, elegant, completely make-ahead. Set it out when you sit down and let it be the first thing you share.
Steak salad. Substantial and beautiful as the bridge between the dip and the risotto. The steak and the greens and a good dressing set up the richness of what comes next.
Lobster risotto. This is the course that earns the Beatrice tablecloth. Rich, indulgent, and it requires your full attention for the last twenty minutes of cooking. That is part of the evening. Your partner is at the beautifully set table while you finish the risotto in the kitchen. When it comes out it will be worth every minute.
Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. Made the day before and better for it. Served on the prettiest plate you own with nothing else required. This is the anniversary dinner dessert.
The Outfit
The outfits for an anniversary dinner at home are comfortable but a little dressier than the more casual summer pieces in recent weeks. The kind of thing you put on and feel like yourself at your best, which is always the goal.
A striped skirt anchors both options. Pair it with the matching top for a more polished look, or with the tank for something slightly more relaxed. Both are exactly right for a dinner at home that feels like an occasion. The dress is a beautiful standalone option for anyone who wants something simpler and equally lovely.
For accessories: an easy handbag, a pair of fancy sunglasses if the evening starts outside, and a classic flat that works with everything.
